WSJ: Spy Cells

The WSJ published an article on the front page headlined with “Spy Cells”. The article described services by Loopt mostly, that keep users informed of their friends location. It also mentions, briefly, Whrrl by Pelago, but concentrates also on child tracking software for phones. The online version also has a decent video of a journalist using Loopt w/ her boyfriend.

The article seems to focus heavily on the security issues related to the service, and mentions possible government regulation.

Unfortunately, the service fails to explore stories from the people who use the service and their feedback. Undoubtedly, as mobile location based services expand, the WSJ will continue coverage of this burgeoning market.
